The history of our family winery

The story of our winery begins

In 1979

Our grandfather, Michalis Kanakaris, decided to devote himself in winemaking, here, in the heart of the winegrowing region of Aigialeia (Egialia), in the Peloponnese, Greece. With his passion for wine and his efforts in homemade wine the previous years, he had received many compliments from his closer friends and had gained supporters in the wider social circles.

The idea started to come true and his dream took shape when the first – most modern at his time – winemaking equipment was imported from France and the installation building was established in the winegrowing region of Egialia, in the village Eliki.

The first yield made an impressive impact, which was due to the winery’s equipment and the characteristics of the wine grapes. These first years, our grandfather focused on the regional grape varieties: Roditis (Fox), Sideritis and Mavro Kalavrytino.

Gradually, the winery’s production capacity reached the 250 tons mostly in grape must, while the distribution was covering the wider region of Achaia and Central Greece.

In 1995

Our father, Giorgos Kanakaris, who was brought up in this environment, enters the family business and puts all his efforts especially in the production of high quality wines and in expanding the production capacity.

New varieties – Merlot, Agiorgitiko, Syrah and Muscat – are added to the winery’s potential, giving us the possibility to create a complete range of white, red and rose wines. The quality of the selected and mountainous vineyards is transferred in the first bottlings.

It was now time to add new stainless steel tanks, a bottling unit and a small laboratory to the existing installations. The distribution of our wines has expanded further in the wider region.

Being brought up with two generations of winemakers, it was inevitable for us brothers, Michalis and Stefanos Kanakaris, to follow in the footsteps of our father and grandfather.

In 2009

We took up the reins of the winery after concluding with our studies. Michalis in Oenology and Stefanos in Trade & Marketing. We have introduced the most modern techniques in winemaking and have invested further in modernizing and expanding our winery’s installations. Above all, we take special care in exploiting the potential of the land of Aigialeia in the best possible way, by bringing in each of our bottles its terroir and a piece of its winegrowing heritage.

Along with us in our journey, the grape varieties in starring roles are: Roditis, Malagouzia, Moschofilero, Mavro Kalavrytino, Merlot, Syrah, Agiorgitiko, offered as single varietals or in blends and vinified in modern, aromatic expressions. Our efforts in the recent years have been crowned by the international awareness that our wines have gained as well as by the awards they have received in international wine competitions.


With the knowledge, the family’s long-standing experience and the respect to our land’s winegrowing tradition, we offer a complete range of wines that has gained the attention of the wine enthusiasts with its aromatic & tasteful richness, the terroir expression and the unique characteristics of the grape varieties that are cultivated in our region.

Our wines are now available throughout Greece mainland and the Greek islands, while 40% of the production is enjoyed abroad, among others, in the USA, Germany and China..
